The words “half a breath between the hurting and the healing” capture the reality that grief is not something we leave behind, rather something we carry with us, a constant presence that shifts and changes over time.

At The Grief Club of Minnesota, this sentiment reflects the belief that healing is not about “getting over” a death, but about learning to carry it differently. Rather than forcing healing or diminishing the pain, we create a compassionate space where both the hurting and the healing are acknowledged.

Grief is often misunderstood, leading to common myths that can hinder healing. Some believe grief follows a set timeline, but in reality, it’s a lifelong process that changes over time. Others think staying strong means suppressing emotions, when expressing grief is essential for healing. Many assume children don’t grieve like adults, yet they experience emotions deeply in their own ways. Grief is not about moving on but learning to carry pain and love differently.

The Grief Club of Minnesota is for families, young kids and teens who have lost a parent or loved one and are dealing with grief.

When I was 20, my dad passed away of a sudden heart attack. Dealing with grief is something I’m still dealing with. So that, combined with the fact that I’m so proud of my mom making it into a positive, and joining the Club, becoming a part of the board of directors, and working with the Club, is why I chose this cause.
